Join us for a special Community Reading at B-Bar at The Betsy!
Grace Aneiza Ali is participating in the DVCAI Writer-in-Residence Program in collaboration with the Betsy Writers Room Residency, to be hosted at The Betsy Hotel from August 18 to August 24, 2024. During her residency with DVCAI and The Betsy Hotel, Ali will dedicate time towards her non-fiction book, The Geography of Separation, and will conduct a public program. The new book project bridges her curatorial practice with her family’s migration story by examining their objects of migration.
On Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 11 am, Grace Aneiza Ali will present a reading and conversation from her new work-in-progress as well as her current book, Liminal Spaces: Migration and Women of the Guyanese Diaspora.
Kei Miller, PhD will introduce Ali and facilitate a public discussion. Participants will gain insight into the intersections of contemporary Caribbean art and literature, the writers’ practice, motivations, and recent accomplishments.
This residency is a catalyst for the development of experimental works, the sharing of new projects, and long-term engagement with the Miami-based, Global South organization, Diaspora Vibe Cultrual Arts Incubator.
The AIR program is generously supported by residency-specific support from The Betsy Hotel, CreARTE, The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation at The Miami Foundation, Alternate Roots, National Performance Network, and the annual DVCAI Artist Catalyst Awards.
