Ippolito, a 45-year-old man of transgender experience, is an educator, clinician, filmmaker, activist, and writer. Born and raised in South Florida, he has a Masters Degree in Social Work from Fordham University and a Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) from Chestnut Hill College. In 2010, Ippolito founded Gender Reel, the country’s only coast-to-coast film & performance art festival and production program dedicated to enhancing the visibility of trans and gender nonconforming people. His interest in film, and passion for trying new things, launched what he now considers a “second career.” Alongside 99 other amazing transgender activists, organizers and advocates, Joe was nominated into the 2015 Trans 100 list for his work in the community.
