She has produced segments of two documentaries about climate change and sea-level rise for national television stations throughout Europe, including ARTE, RTS, RTBF, and NTR. In 2018, she spent five days in Panama City, Florida in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Michael field producing coverage of the disaster with a four-person crew.

Atena was born in Hong Kong and lived in Sweden and Washington, D.C. before moving to Miami in 2013
